Jesus tells the Father that He had given the disciples the message He gave Him. They would suffer but they were privileged to receive words from the Father, and these words have been passed on to us in the Bible. The disciples had received these words; they had come to believe that Jesus came from God. He came on a divine rescue mission, and the disciples were about to see the cost of this: Jesus goes to the cross, despised and rejected by men, and it pleases God to bruise Him.
