God’s wrath is always just: the Amalekites opposed the Israelites coming out of Egypt and were wicked. The Canaanites likewise worshipped their gods in every manner displeasing to the Lord. A God of holiness could not be indifferent to their sin. There is a great day of wrath coming but it has not happened yet because God is patient.
