Martin Luther was taught that salvation depended on performance and he had a deep anxiety of the soul. He determined to be the most religious but found everything superficial. The problem needs to be dealt with at its root. We can’t just patch things up. Being justified is more than just being forgiven; it is a complete declaration of innocence.
