The consequence is that God gives them up to the lusts that are already in their hearts; His punishment is to hand them over to ever increasing sin. Paul gives the example of sexual sin as the one to best illustrate his point; they are the not only group who has been given over. The punishment for sin is sin itself, but there is also future punishment.
