Gabriel is commanded to make Daniel understand the vision, but he does not understand all of it. Some things are made clear but others are not. He is told to seal up the vision so it is not lost. Are we people of the book? We too are not told everything, but we have been given everything God wants to reveal to us. It is enough to equip us in this world that will always be Babylon until Christ returns.
