Bible Text: Romans 7:5-6 | Preacher: James Allan | Series: Romans | Paul gives the example of marriage to show that death releases a person from the obligations of the law. However, whereas it is the husband who dies, he also says we die to the law. The law is not dead. The Christian is dead to the law’s accusations because of Christ. Our inclination to sin was aroused by the law. This doesn’t mean we are only partly responsible. Our sinful passions are at fault. The puritans said the law shows God’s will for holy living. It has no place in our justification but it does define the kind of life God wants us to live.
