David’s conscience strikes him for cutting off a corner of Saul’s robe. Saul was anointed as king and therefore belonged to the Lord. To take the crown on this way would not be the Lord’s will. Before the crown comes the cross. We are reminded of Christ’s obedience and thank Him for it. It is the same for Christians; Christ would have us take up our cross and follow Him.
