Abner makes Saul’s son Ishbosheth king over all Israel, despite knowing God’s will is for David to be king, and battle follows. Abner wanted power for himself. People today do not want God to be king and suppress the truth, preferring their sin. However, Abner loses. Things are difficult for the church today but Jesus Christ wins. The Christian life is a conflict but God will complete His work in the Christian.
