Jesus has prayed for Himself and now makes four petitions for His people. He prays for His disciples, although they are about to run away. He delights in them, and our confidence is not in our worth – we are sinners – but in His love for us. He says He has manifested God’s name, and the names of God describe His attributes. This was the day before the crucifixion. If we want to know what God is like, look at the cross: He is the God who loves undeserving sinners and saves them.
