Paul’s principle in this verse will safeguard against abuses of power in the church. It is humility: everyone is not to think of themselves more highly than they ought. Paul is only an apostle because of the grace he received. Our gifts and talents are all given to us, so what is the point of boasting? This is the heart of Christianity: faith is the gift of God.
