The Pharisees tested Jesus, perhaps wanting to expose Him as having an extreme view. They thought Moses gave permission for divorce but Jesus instead shows this was for the protection of women because divorce would happen due to the hardness of men’s hearts. Rather than being extreme, Jesus’ teaching is good. Marriage is not a temporary transaction.
