On the cross, Jesus is mocked by all of society, rejected as prophet, priest and king, thus fulfilling prophecy. The evidence they ask for of His being the Messiah is to come down from the cross, but doing so would only evidence that He is not the Messiah! His obedience pleased the Father, as can our obedience when tempted.
