Jesus rebukes the disciples for not asking where He is going, and their sorrow is linked to their not asking. The Holy Spirit is such a gift that it makes His departure worthwhile. People will never turn to Christ for salvation unless the Holy Spirit brings conviction of sin, righteousness and judgement. There are positive and negative aspects to each of these.
