Remorse or Repentance
David shows Saul how close he was to being able to kill him, but justice belongs to the Lord. This brings peace for the Christian; justice is always done, although it may be on the day of judgement. Saul acknowledges his actions have been futile but remorse is not the same as repentance. Saul appeals to David, not God, for mercy. He ignores his conscience but conscience is there to drive us to Jesus.
