When pursued, David goes to Jonathan, where he knows there is covenant love. In times of trouble we can go where there is covenant love. It doesn’t matter what we have done. There is justice in the blood of the new covenant. Jonathan forsakes his crown as he would rather be on the Lord’s side. Following Christ involves a willingness to forsake everything for Him. Jonathan tells David to go in peace. Tears of sorrow can be joined to joy and peace.
