The Jews would have known the promise made to David that his offspring would have an eternal throne. All the kings who had gone before could not establish that kingdom. The genealogy ends with Christ. Here is a king who has done what the other kings could not do. Jesus is the Son of Abraham. The promise is for people of all nations. Jesus tells the disciples at the end of the gospel to make disciples of all nations.
