By the Spirit, Put to Death the Deeds of the Body
Bible Text: Romans 8:12-13 | Preacher: James Allan | Series: Romans | Paul says Christians are debtors but puts it negatively: not debtors to the flesh. The Christian is free from the call of sin. There may be conflicting desires, but not being a debtor means we don’t need to obey! He doesn’t say what we are debtors to, but it is implied; we are obligated to walk according to the Holy Spirit. We don’t earn something by doing so; it’s not works. There’s nothing easy about putting to death the deeds of the body. We don’t earn being right with God, but we are at war with sin. It is the Holy Spirit who gives the strength, but it requires radical action.
