Give Us a King
There seemed to be a purity to Israel's request for a king. They didn't want Samuel's godless sons as their future judges. Deuteronomy says they may set a king over them but sets down conditions for a godly Israelite. The problem is the reason for the request; they want to put their confidence in a king and are rejecting God. We can be guilty like Israel of dictating to God what the answer must be. He is gracious in not answering everything we've ever asked for! God is for us as His people and His purpose is to bless us.
